Celebrating Festivals: Connecting to Universal Truth

With Chinyelu Kunz and Molly Brett

March 30 – April 30, 2022

This four-week course will dive deep into festival life and we will explore these intriguing questions:

What is our universal experience?

What is alive in each season no matter the hemisphere?

How can we bring our own uniqueness to our celebrations in our homes and in our classrooms?

How do we choose what to celebrate and how do we create a fulfilling experience for all?

Prepare to deepen your understanding of the festivals by looking through a different lens.  We will examine the mood of each season by associating each one with a lower, middle, and higher sense.

  • Autumn: Touch, Vision, Ego
  • Winter: Life, Warmth, Concept
  • Spring: Movement, Smell, Language
  • Summer: Balance, Taste, Hearing

Then we will further explore how this creates an archetype which can deepen our connections to the natural world.

This course will include:

  • Weekly video conversations featuring Molly and Chinyelu
  • Weekly exploratory writing exercises and online discussion forums
  • Weekly reading assignments
  • Recommended reading resources to help you craft meaningful festivals
  • Practical examples of how to celebrate various festivals (food, decorations, songs, stories)

About the Instructors:

Chinyelu Kunz was born and raised in Enugu, Nigeria and then moved the U.S. She found Waldorf Education when her first child was 2 years old. Her children have attended multiple Waldorf schools and all three graduated from Kimberton Waldorf School. The depth and breadth of Waldorf education is what drew her and continues to fill her with awe and enthusiasm. “Waldorf education has positively impacted my life and offers me immense guidance in my personal life and as a mother and educator.” A long-time Waldorf early childhood educator, Chinyelu has recently joined the LifeWays Board of Trustees. You can also find Chinyelu at wenurturecollective.com and on instagram @we_nurture where she’s committed to supporting parents of young children.

Molly Brett lives, teaches and podcasts from Pennsylvania. Molly’s journey into Waldorf education has ebbed and flowed, but throughout her life she has been consistently pulled back to Waldorf education. It started in early childhood where she was blessed with a rhythmical and reverent up-bringing. Her reverence of early childhood fills her with appreciation every day whether she’s teaching in the classroom or at home with her three children. “Exploring the holistic view of child development gave me peace as it solidified memories of profound experiences and feelings that inform who I am today. These early impressions took on a whole new meaning when I began to learn about Waldorf education and its’ pedagogy.”

This course is “guided” in that new discussions will emerge that are unique to THIS course offering and THIS group of students, and your course instructors will be participating along the way.
